44 pounds of proof that America is the greatest nation on earth

A lady let her 44 lb cat go because her house was in foreclosure.  I have said in the past that things in America can't be too bad if we have diet dog food.

One of the veterinarians that our dog sees is a homeopathic doctor.  Once she scolded me because my dog was fat.  She told me that I must put him on diet dog food.  I asked, "If that doesn't work, what's left for us to do......liposuction?"

She didn't laugh.

Recently, I took my dog to her again.  I made my brother come for the experience.  On the counter were spray bottle samples.  One  was for calming and balancing mood...so I sprayed it on my brother.   I can't remember the company 'Earth, wind and fire' or something like that.  I noticed on the label that it was infused with a double rainbow, which is a rare ingredient.  That must be why it's so expensive.

This vet is a good vet.  I don't subscribe to the zany homeopathic emphasis, but I go because it's so entertaining.  She asked me this last visit what I feed my dogs.  I said, "Old Roy" which is the cheapest wal-mart brand.  It's about $14.00 for 55lbs.  When I said 'Old Roy' she closed her eyes and grasped the counter as if she were going to faint.  I reached for the balancing spray infused with a double rainbow just to be ready.  She then breathed deeply, looked heaven-ward and seemed to compose herself.  She spoke slowly, "That is not a good choice for dog food."

You can assess the state of the union by our pet population.

After Katrina, PBS did a special about abandoned pets.  I'm sure Myanmar and  other places around the world where earthquakes and natural disasters have hit, people only care about dogs and cats as a food source.  A 44lb cat would look like a pretty good meal.

PBS came just short of saying that FEMA should have rescued the pets and reunited them with their owners.

If we live in a country that is remotely concerned about the welfare of animals, we're doing pretty well.

where there is a will there is a way

They made us worry about tap water and offered us bottled water from the purest springs(NJ tap water).  They made us worry about the trees and stop using paper bags in the grocery store in favor of plastic bags so the trees would be safe.

Now we're breaking mercury light bulbs and polluting our homes and landfills and ground water thanks to the rabid environmentalists and their government mandates.  Now the plastic bottles that held the purest water are found to be a cancer causing, landfill nightmare.  Another landfill nightmare are the plastic bags they made us use instead of paper.

Why should we trust them with energy?

It wouldn't be so bad if they were only wasting their time and money, but they're not.  They're clogging the courts with frivolous lawsuits to preserve some sacred piece of land.

The day that Tim Russert died was the same day that most of the midwest was under water from flooding.  Where I live we have damns built in the 1920's holding back water that could wipe out several communities.  The damns hadn't been regularly inspected or repaired for 20 years....which coincided with the eco-revolution.  The DNR and other government agencies don't have time to inspect and repair damns and bridges because they are out counting garter snakes and protecting the nests of eagles.

I dont' watch the nightly news but I watched the NBC nightly news the night that Tim Russert died hoping to hear some news about the flooding.  The news was preempted.  It was a half hour eulogy for Tim Russert, which isn't news BTW.  Who gives a flyinfig if  fly-over country is under water, if a media elite has unexpectedly died.  Mr. Russert's death was very tragic, but not *world news*.

What is news?  It's Ok to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a whale who wants to commit suicide by beaching itself, but not to fight for the life of Terry Sciavo.

We're worried about all the little woodland creatures like we're living in some fractured fairy tale.  We're worried about all the wrong things.

Our grandfathers who built the bridges and damns poured themselves into those structures because they were thinking about us.  That's why they've lasted as long as they have. It was a source of pride.  If they could build things to last so can we.  We can drill for oil quickly and expertly.  Where there is a will there is a way.  In Milwaukee the new highway interchange was built ahead of schedule and under budget.  Don't tell me it can't be done.

We want our children to be free and prosperous.  We have to stop this eco-insanity for their sake.  We need oil.  Just the discussion of drilling for oil brings the prices down.  The speculators aren't the villains. They're just responding to our action or inaction.  It's futures.  Do we have one?  Yes, but we have to stop counting garter snakes and start drilling.  The DNR and other agencies like it are overqualified for the job of counting.  Can we give our children the security our grandparents gave us?  Is it a source of pride to secure the future for our children?

multiple choice: Why would 100,000 Germans come out to see Obama?

A) It was a nice diversion for the unemployed from their tedium of idleness?

B) They're all simultaneously on their government mandated yearly 8 week vacation?

C) They have a weakness for following deluded charismatic leaders with good oratory skills?

I blame the christians for the peril we are in

I saw on the BBC news today that congress wants to investigate the holdings of many tele-evangelists.  I wish they would.  I blame the christian leadership in this country for taking their eyes off the prize.  The prosperity preach is all about achieving wealth, and accumulating wealth is not the message of Jesus.  When Kenneth Copeland says no one will be allowed to see his financial books because they belong to God I want to laugh.  If they belonged to God they wouldn't have Kenneth Copeland's name all over them.  If they belonged to God the money would already be gone to good use.  Ananias and Sapphira learned the hard way not to tell half truths to God, because half the truth is a lie.

The only apostle interested in money was Judas.  Paul took money as an offering, but he also told the apostles they had to earn their keep.  He seemed acutely aware of not being phony.  He would do whatever it took to convince the world that Jesus Christ is LORD and with him came the power to prove it.  Where is the power today?  Do you know a single christian who prays for you and you are healed? That should be an everyday occurrence.   Instead we have a christian church culture in this country that is powerless.  Christians are entrenched in the culture, making all the same mistakes and choices that the world makes.

Paul on his way to Rome to go to prison was shipwrecked.  They washed ashore on Malta and not one person was lost.  The natives welcomed them and built a fire.  Out of the fire came a poisonous snake that bit Paul.  The natives thought he was a murdered, because he survived the sea, but justice was served by the snake.  Paul shook off the snake with no ill effects.  Then the natives thought he was a god.  He proceeded to stay with a local official and heal his family member...all without a tv show and a mansion and a jet.

Do we pray?  'The prayers of a righteous man availeth much.' and 'If my people WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME will humble themselves and pray, repent of their sins and seek my face, then will I hear from heave, forgive their sins and heal their land.'

I feel like I'm part of a small army that is surrounded by the enemy on every side...so much sin, yet I am chosen by the Ancient of Days  to be where I am in history.  So I pick up my shield of faith, because a shield does me no good laying in the corner gathering dust.  I 'stand behind the shield of faith that extinguishes the fiery darts of the enemy.'

It's never too late to get it right.  Get on your knees and repent and pray for God to spare this country from His wrath.
